Hilary Swank and Ruben Torres
Oscar
winner Hilary Swank didn’t have to say that her engagement to tennis
instructor Ruben Torres was off. In 2016, social media can do that for
you!
She simply removed her engagement announcement from Twitter and Instagram. Her reps later confirmed to People that Swank and Torres, who began dating in spring of 2015, no longer had plans to marry. (Photo: Getty Images)
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard
The surprising split
of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard just before Memorial Day and after the
death of his mother quickly turned into a PR nightmare for the Pirates
of the Caribbean star. Heard quickly sought a restraining order against
Depp, who, she alleged in court documents, verbally and physically
abused Heard throughout their 15-month marriage. In response, Depp
replied with a statement through his rep: “Given the brevity of this
marriage and the most recent and tragic loss of his mother, Johnny will
not respond to any of the salacious false stories, gossip,
misinformation and lies about his personal life. Hopefully the
dissolution of this short marriage will be resolved quickly.” The two
had no prenup. (getty images photo)
Jason Derulo and Daphne Joy
After
going through a bad breakup with Jordin Sparks in 2014, Jason Derulo
told Billboard magazine that it would take “a miracle” for him to get
back into another relationship. But in November 2015, the “Want You to
Want Me” singer found love again with model Daphne Joy. Six months
later, it was over. While there aren’t any details as to why they split,
Derulo told People in March that he loved Joy’s
“understated personality. She’s absolutely gorgeous, but it’s really
amazing to me that she’s really humble." (Photo: Instagram)
Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne
Aisha
Tyler isn’t the only host of The Talk to endure a split in 2016. News

Paris Hilton once called boyfriend Thomas Gross her “soulmate,” but that was last year. In late April 2016, both TMZ and Us Weekly reported that Hilton’s year-long relationship had ended. Sources told TMZ
that the fact he’s a millionaire living in Sweden and she’s a deejaying
socialite who spends most of her time in L.A. and Ibiza was the reason
for the split. (Photo: Instagram)
Zac Efron and Sami Miro
Zac Efron and his awesome abs had been off the market for nearly two years, but in late April, the Baywatch star became a single man
once again. He reportedly ended his relationship with model Sami Miro
for multiple reasons. “Distance and work schedules got in the way with
their relationship and Zac wanted to focus on his career,” a source
told E! News. Even sadder, “the spark had died,” the source said. (Photo: Larry Busacca/Getty Images for Saint Laurent)
Kirsten Dunst and Garrett Hedlund
After more than four years of dating, Kirsten Dunst and Garrett Hedlund called it quits
in the spring. The actors met while co-starring in the 2012 movie On
the Road and seemed to be solid right up until the end. They attended
the Golden Globes together in January, and she even suggested
that babies were in their future in 2014. In keeping with their
low-profile romance, neither released a statement. (Photo: Getty Images)
Aisha Tyler and Jeff Tietjens
The
Talk’s Aisha Tyler and her college sweetheart, lawyer Jeff Tietjens, are
no more. He filed for divorce in April 2016, following a legal
separation in January 2015. Following the announcement, Tyler — who had
previously talked openly about their struggles to conceive a child —
attempted to address the split on her show.
"It’s very hard when you love someone very much [but] also start to
realize that maybe you want different things for your lives,” she said.
“You don’t want to accept it and you don’t want to believe it. For a
long time, we were really fighting to stay together. That’s why I didn’t
talk about it.” (Photo: Getty Images)
Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman
News
broke April 1 that actress Drew Barrymore is headed for her third
divorce, this time from art consultant Will Kopelman, whom she married
in June 2012. ET reported that “talk of a separation” began six months earlier. Still, a source told Page Six that the two “remain close” for the sake of their daughters, Olive and Frankie. (Photo: Getty Images)

Casey Affleck and Summer Phoenix
Two of
the most famous siblings in Hollywood — the younger brother of
actor/director Ben Affleck and the little sister of the late River
Phoenix and actor Joaquin — quietly enjoyed a long relationship. The
couple began dating in 2000, after Joaquin, Casey’s co-star in the 1995
movie To Die For, introduced them. Three years later they were engaged,
and they welcomed the first of two sons in 2004. They married in 2006
and “amicably separated” 10 years later in March 2016.
Lea Michele and Matthew Paetz
Following Corey Monteith’s heartbreaking death in July 2013, Lea Michele found love again
with a model on the set of the music video for her song “On My Way” in
April 2014. She stood by him after reports surfaced that he’d once been a
gigolo, and they even moved in together that summer. All seemed well
until February 2016, when news broke that Paetz ended things unexpectedly. (Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images)

romance in February. The two began dating in the summer of 2013 and
welcomed a baby boy named Winston in April 2014. Their demise came just
as Elba was enjoying the highest praise of his career during the awards
season of 2016. (Photo: Getty Images)
Jordin Sparks and Sage the Gemini
Not
long after her unexpected breakup with longtime boyfriend Jason Derulo
in 2015, “Battlefield” songstress Jordin Sparks found a new main squeeze
in the biz: rapper Sage the Gemini. They made it for seven months
before calling it off in early February after dating for 10 months. He apparently had regrets, though, which he shared in an Instagram post begging her
to come back to him after he saw her looking hot one night.
Unfortunately for him, Sparks did not respond to his
plea. (Photo: Twitter)

2015. The two called it quits in January, and theKocktails With Khloé
star was candid as usual about the reason it ended. “He wanted [a

sought me out. He wanted to be committed and, you know, then wasn’t
committed. So Koko had to go go!”(Photo: Getty Images)
Iggy Azalea and Nick Young
The
three-year relationship between controversial rapper Iggy Azalea and NBA
forward Nick Young miraculously survived scandal in March, after
footage leaked of Young bragging that he’d cheated on his fiancée.
Azalea later claimed that the two, engaged since June 2015, were “good.”The same was not true in June, when Azalea explained on Twitter that Young had continued to be unfaithful.
“I broke up with Nick because I found out he had brought other women
into our home while I was away and caught them on the security footage,”
she shared. One more shock was the discovery, through TV news, that
Young’s ex was expecting her second child with him. “This is just like a
second shot to the chest,” Azalea continued. “And I feel like I don’t
even know who the hell it is I’ve been loving all this time.” We don’t
expect a reunion.(Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images)
Lisa Marie Presley and Michael Lockwood
Elvis
Presley’s daughter Lisa Marie Presley was married to fourth husband
Michael Lockwood for 10 years — longer than ex-husbands Michael Jackson,
Nicolas Cage, and Danny Keough. However, they won’t make it to their
11th anniversary, because Presley filed for divorce
from Lockwood at the start of summer. Lockwood, who worked as his
wife’s guitarist, producer, and director, shares twin girls born in 2008
with Presley. (Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images)

Dennis and Kimberly Quaid
Third time was the opposite of a charm for actor Dennis Quaid and his wife, Kimberly. Quaid’s wife of a dozen years filed for divorce
in late June, more than four years after she sought to end their
marriage the first time. The Parent Trap star tried to divorce her the
same year. This time, Quaid offered a statement: “After careful
consideration, Kimberly and I have decided to end our 12 year marriage,”
it read. “The decision was made amicably and with mutual respect
towards one another. We will always remain great friends and devoted
partners in raising our children.” The two welcomed fraternal twins in
2007. (Photo: George Pimentel/WireImage)
Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama
For
years, singer Demi Lovato and actor Wilmer Valderrama were paired up
together, whether hitting the red carpet or wearing matching holiday
onesies. They announced — together, naturally — on June 6, that their
romance had ended. “After almost 6 loving and wonderful years together,
we have decided to end our relationship,” they wrote
in matching Instagram posts. “This was an incredibly difficult decision
for both of us, but we have realized more than anything that we are
better as best friends. We will always be supportive of one another.
Thank you to everyone who has offered us kindness and support over the
years. With only love, Wilmer & Demi.” Need a tissue? (Photo:

Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris
For 15
months, it seemed like songstress Taylor Swift and DJ Calvin Harris had
the kind of romance from one of her songs — one of the happy ones, of
course! She described their relationship as “magical” as recently as
April 2016 in an interview with Vogue. But the pair had split by June. “It just wasn’t working anymore,” a source told Us Weekly. Fans will surely get the real story on Swift’s next album. (Photo: Instagram)
