Does the leadership of the Zone 8 of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) want to combat the threat of Boko Haram with female officers alone?
They are asking IGP Mohammed Dikko Abubakar, to reverse the transfer. Akhigbe noted that the women are all married with some in different stages of pregnancy while some others had just put to bed. Some others, he argued are either nursing mothers or are newly married. He argued that the transfer was capable of separating their wives from their homes and could also lead to their homes being summarily broken. “There are so many things we can’t say now, you know, about things like this when you ask a woman to go and be in a place without adequate provisions and preparations,” he said, adding that many of them are now worried. “Are they going to fight Boko Haram with female policemen?”, he asked, surrounded by other equally angry men who lamented that there was no provision of accommodation for their wives in Kogi State where they have been directed to report.
Many of them also confided in newsmen that their wives had told them that they are not interested in the posting as they argued that female police officers were not posted away from their homes during the regime of IGPs like Tafa Balogun, Sunday Ehindero or Hafiz Ringim. They claimed that anything could happen “when our wives squat all about”.
However, when contacted over the issue, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Kwara State Command, Dabo Ezekiel, said the transfer was approved from the Force headquarters, Abuja, and as such, asked the aggrieved husbands to direct their complaints appropriately. He declined to make further comments when pressed by newsmen.
