The Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, said in Lagos yesterday that the federal government is contemplating the use of electronic tracking of foreigners in the country.
Abba Moro, who was a guest on a Lagos television, said the efforts are to help quell the rate of violence in some parts of the country, adding that the electronic tracking would involve the adequate accounting of the number of immigrants. He also stated that the tracking would also enhance the government in tracking economic saboteurs, who come in as expatriates, yet they are grossly unqualified.
Abba Moro said government is weighing various options in tackling the insecurity in the country. One of them, according to him, is the collaboration with countries that had a similar experience in term of insecurity and they have survived it.
“We have a few options considered and we are looking out at countries that had similar experience in term of insecurity and how we can go into some levels of collaborations,” Abba Moro said.
Abba Moro said the most important thing is that government must be sure that those who are coming into the country are expatriates and people that actually require their services. Given the activities of Boko Haram and the effects of inflicting violence and mayhem on Nigerians, Abba Moro further said Nigerians inevitably must resolve to tackle the problem.
“You know that no alien can come into this country to perpetrate any act of violence or illegal action without the active collaboration and support of Nigerians. I do not believe that those that come from outside came on their own volition essentially to come and commit the level of violence that is being committed in the country today,” he said.
