General Muhammadu Buhari, presidential candidate of the All
Progressives Congress (APC), yesterday in Abuja debunked reports that he
promised to make Naira equal to a dollar if voted into office.
The
clarification was made via the Deputy Director of Policy and Strategy
of the APC Campaign Organisation, Mr. Bolaji Abdullahi at the 8th and
closing session of the Nigeria Political Party Debates Series (NPPDS),
organised by the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) and the Open
Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) titled: “Manifesto Hour:
Political Parties and Citizens.”According to the Daly Trust, he said Buhari only described the economic situation where value of the Naira dropped to as low as N230 as unacceptable, but that the former Military ruler was wrongly reported in the media.
On continuity, Abdullahi said the party would improve on those projects considered beneficial to the people, but that those that do not represent interest of the people would be terminated if elected into office.
The APC National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed said the party was ready to tackle corruption, unemployment and insecurity in the country.
The Director, CDD Idayat Hassan commended the parties and Nigerians for supporting the programme aimed at deepening citizens participation in the elections and the nation’s democracy.
While Buhari aims to make the naira valuable, President Goodluck Jonathan has been busy sharing dollars of monarchs around the country.
There are reports that the prominent traditional rulers in Osun State have complained that their subjects are daily demanding their share of dollars, which the president allegedly rained on some monarchs when he visited the state.
