Meet Lagos ‘Fake Dance Promoter’ Who Specializes In Duping Young Girls

The Police at Lion Building Division, Lagos Island, western Nigeria have arrested a 23-year-old suspected fake dancing promoter, Damilola Joseph for allegedly obtaining seven phones from six women to qualify them for a dancing competition at a hotel on Victoria Island. 
Police alleged that after the suspect collected the expensive phones from the victims, he sold them off and escaped.
Police said nemesis caught up with the suspect when the victims reported the incident to the DPO in charge of Lion Building division, Lagos Island, CSP Anthonia Tanaruno.
Following the report, the DPO directed a team led by Inspector Elegbede Oluranti to fish out the suspect anywhere he may be found and the suspect was traced and arrested at a hotel on Lagos Island.
The suspect was arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ court on a six-count charge of felony to wit: stealing.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Ingonbo Emby, informed the court that the accused deceived the complainants that he was a dancing competition promoter at a hotel on Victoria Island, Lagos and he tricked and collected seven expensive phones from them to qualify them for a dancing competition.
Emby told the court that the accused collected Infinix Hot note phone valued at N30,000 and N10,000 cash from Sarah Ononiwu at Tokunbo street, Lagos Island, Samsung Galaxy phone valued at N70,000 and N7,000 cash from Ibukun Oluwa Yusuf at Down Town Hotel, 91, Olushi Street, Lagos Island, Infinix Hot note phone valued at N30,000 and N5,000 cash from Esther Richard at Down Town Hotel, 91 Olushi Street, Lagos Island.

Emby said the accused also collected Q10 phone valued at N46,000 from Oluwakemisola Okeseyin at Down Town Hotel, 91, Olushi street,Lagos Island, a phone valued at N15,000 from Judith Ezulike at Crown Inn Hotel, 40, Bamgbose Street, Lagos Island and iphone 5S valued at N135,000 and Camon C8 phone valued at N26,000 from Ajand Damilola at New World Hotel, Hawley street, Lagos Island to qualify them for a dancing competition which did not materialize.

Emby noted that the offences the accused committed are punishable under section 285 of the criminal laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, denied the allegation in the open court and Magistrate Mr. Balogun admitted him to bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Balogun adjourned the case till 15 January, 2016 for mention while the defendant was taken to Ikoyi prison, Lagos pending when he will fulfill his bail condition.
