FG Begs China to Train the Country's Engineers
The Federal Government has appealed to China to help train Nigerian engineers in the building and fabrication of solar panel chips and smaller satellites to make the country self-sufficient in space technology.
Minister of Science and Technology, Prof Ita Okon Bassey Ewa, made the call when a delegation from China Great Wall Industry Corporation, who helped Nigeria launched its latest satellites, visited him in Abuja yesterday.
Professor Ewa, according to a statement from the ministry, expressed FG's satisfaction with the Nigcomsat-1R which was handed over to Nigeria on Monday.
"We expect the Chinese engineers to teach our engineers how to fabricate and build small satellites. We believe that with this, Nigeria will be able to design, build and launch its own satellite," the minister was quoted as saying.
He requested the delegation to establish a language laboratory at the space centre in order to improve technology diffusion, which will also facilitate technology transfer.
Prof Ewa said based the technical partnership with China, Nigeria would like to share knowledge areas such as space and nuclear technology, bio and leather technology, solar technology and other emerging technologies that are rapidly growing in Nigeria.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation and President of the China Great Wall Corporation, Mr. Yin Liming, said the Chinese engineers will remain at the facility to continue with the technology transfer, while more engineers will come from China in a week's time to visit the National Space Research and Development Agency.
