When Kim Kardashian fell hard for Kris Humphries early last year -- getting engaged to the NBA star after just a few months of dating and tying the knot in August -- her famous family had major reservations.
But Kardashian, 31, wasn't in a state of mind to heed the prophetic advice of sister Khloe and others. (She filed for divorce from Humphries, 27, on Oct. 31 after just 72 days of marriage.)
"I'm a person, when I'm in love, you can't tell me anything," she explained to Jay Leno on The Tonight Show Wednesday. "And you gotta go through it yourself. So, I did what I believed in doing, and sometimes you don't want to hear what your family has to say."
She and Humphries are now locked in an unresolved divorce battle. But still, Kardashian told Leno she's not sure she would have done it differently. "You look back and you're like, 'OK, that was a sign,' or, you know, 'Maybe I should have listened to them.' But, I wouldn't have been who I am today had I not gone through that."
And the romance was no show-mance, the reality star insisted. "What you see is what you get. I showed my life and the reality of my life and it might not be pretty all the time, but it's who I am and I learned so much from it."
