It should be a dark day in the history of the Nigerian Legal Profession for cancelling every charge against Ibori, only for a foreign legal system to do the right thing.
Ibori's 13yr Jail term is victory for the common man on the streets of Nigeria. He represents the people who misused the opportunities they had in Government.
James Ibori was a petty criminal who once worked for the DIY store Wickes, but he re-invented himself as one of the richest - and most corrupt - of Nigeria's regional governors.
He had all the chances he needed to reform and be a good man after his escapades in London in the late 80s and early 90s. However, we wish him a good time in prison and hope that he would repent and change from his ways.
Some of Ibori's Properties
Southwark Crown Court was told the amount Ibori stole from the people of Delta state was "unquantified".
A house in Hampstead, North London, for £2.2m
A property in Shaftesbury, Dorset, for £311,000
A £3.2m mansion in Sandton, near Johannesburg, South Africa
A fleet of armoured Range Rovers valued at £600,000
A £120,000 Bentley
A Mercedes Maybach for 407,000 euros that was shipped direct to his mansion in South Africa.
Most of these would be confiscated in another hearing, probably in August 2012.
What a tragic and pathetic life and times for the Ibori Dynasty. A source said:
1. His wife is presently serving a 5 years jail term in a Uk Prison.
2. His mistress(girlfriend/concubine) is presently serving a 5 years jail term in a Uk Prison.
3. His sister is presently serving a 5 years jail term in a Uk Prison.
4. Two of his lawyers are presently serving a 5 years jail term in a Uk Prison.
Such a conviction of a high profile personality with a sentencing of up to 13 years has never been recorded in Nigeria.
It thus shows that the Nigerian Judicial System, the Efcc, the Icpc and the Nigeria Government as whole are incapacitated, and fraudulently have no intention to put our political criminal and financial rascals behind bar.
Rather It is how much you have that can buy you freedom in Nigeria.
Long live the Uk judicial System.
Long live the Uk government.
Thumbs down to Efcc, Icpc, PDP and the FG.
