“Miss World organizers have axed the famed bikinis from this year’s pageant, replacing them with conservative beach sarongs amid mounting protests from hardline Muslim groups.”
This was the report in the UK Telegraph last week as the most coveted beauty title, “Miss World”
is drawing closer. The 2013 edition is slated to be hosted by Indonesia
in the country’s resort island of Bali and the capital, Jakarta, come
this September.
So, as a replacement, the contestants will be required to wear Bali’s traditional long sarongs as the “London-based
Miss World Organisation has agreed to the request out of respect for
the traditional customs and values of Indonesia.”
