Gambari explained yesterday in Ilorin that along with her supporters, she had always been a staunch supporter of the right and freedom to vote and be voted for as opposed to the imposition of 'annointed' candidates by a handful of individuals without due process or consultations with relevant stakeholders including the electorate.
"The present national leadership of the PDP has assured that there will
be no undemocratic practices like the imposition of candidates, that due
process will be followed so that every eligible and willing member will have
equal opportunity to contest at the party's primary elections. Therefore, with
the firm assurances of adherence to standard democratic practices, we are fully
on ground and at home in the PDP," she declared.
Although she had contested the 2010 Kwara Central Senatorial Election on the
platform of the now defunct CPC, Gambari said the consistency of her
relationship with the people at the grassroots over the years would stand her
in good stead ahead of Abuja and Social Media politicians who ignore the
reality that elections are conducted and won at the grassroots.
While promising to participate fully in the forthcoming registration of
members by the PDP, she appealed to the people at the grassroots throughout
Kwara State to turn out en masse and avail themselves of the opportunity
offered by the exercise.
Gambari, who is a Princess of Ilorin Royal House, reiterated her total
support for President Goodluck Jonathan, his administration and the laudable
components of the Transformation Agenda being implemented across various
sectors under the able leadership of the President.
