A Federal High Court in Abuja yesterday fixed June 11 and 12 for continuation of trial in the case filed against former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole. Bankole was charged on 16 counts of contract fraud leveled against him by the EFCC.
Besides, the court will rule on objection raised by Bankole’s Counsel, Samuel Ologunorisa, against some documents sought to be tendered by prosecuting counsel, Festus Keyamo. Keyamo sought to tender documents for the purchase of Samsung LCD’s, Desktops, Photocopiers and Mercedes cars by the House of Representatives during Bankole’s tenure.
But Ologunorisa urged the court to reject the minutes of meetings attached to the documents. He said the documents sought to be tendered was to prove the competence of charges, and with several paragraphs of the minutes missing, they had been rendered irrelevant.
On the other hand, Keyamo said the documents were received in that manner from the Finance Director of the National Assembly and had satisfied the conditions of admissibility, having been certified.
