According to the bill, the governor will be provided with 2 houses in any place of his choice in Abuja and Rivers State. He will also have 3 cars that will be replaced every 3 years and receive 300% funding for any furniture of his choice.
Other benefits include: 20% funding for utility, 10% funding for entertainment, and 10% for houses of their choice. This is in addition to free medical expenses for him and his immediate family; and security details that will include 2 officials of the State Security Service (SSS), 1 female officer of the same department, 8 police officers for personal and domestic security, and domestic staff including a cook, steward, gardener and others. All the domestic staff, including drivers, shall be pensionable. The benefits available to the deputy governor only come with slight differences.
Is this what you want to continue to do with all retired Public office holders? Should this be passed into Law, then Governor Rotimi Amaechi will no longer be credible. Our leaders told us that Nigeria will go bankrupt if we do not cut back, but this is not cutting back, instead it is nothing other than legalising fraud in the pensions of public office holders.
It is not people in Rivers alone that this affects, it affects every Nigerian and we must refuse to accept the looting of our collective wealth. The Government is continually showing that there are different levels, 1 for public office holders and another for ordinary people. We must no longer allow it and now is the time to take a stand. What is the essence of transparancy and accountability if we do not act now? It would be like a woman who looks at herself in the mirror, sees a spec on her face and walks away without doing anything about it. We must no longer sit down and allow fraud especially when we see it coming.
What do you say?
