"Nigeria is a country of great contradictions.
We talk so much
about development yet are too selfish and unwilling for it. How can we
become developed, when we are too self centered. Here are some of gospel
truths. we can never get to any where, as long as competence is
sidelined for connection, over 80% of the civil service will have to go
for any meaningful development; there'll be no more federal character,
but federal competence, there will no more be miracle jobs or
connections, contracts, but purely on competence and merit. We will
never get anywhere, when the bases of guaging good governance, is based
on the level of money, contracts, jobs or largess we or our relatives
get from that governmentt. A typical example are some Nigerians who say
regimes such as IBB's or Abachas was the best, simply because they or
their relatives made money through connection, not minding the poverty
Nigerians faced, damages to national institutions, collosal coruption
that took place then. We talk of of a corruption free country, yet are
bunch of thieving lots. We say our leaders are thieves, yet, expect our
friends and relatives in governments to give us unmerited jobs,
contracts, where there are millions of better qualified people for it.
We are quick to steal cable, internet access, exam expo, bypass prepaid
PHCN meters, insult and call those who dare to be honest, fools and
mugus because they returned millions of naira they found, we even do not
disclose it when we are over paid. The signs are all there for anyone
who cares to see, Nigerians are not ready to develop. What YOU cant do
YOU cant tolerate, simple!. If we are not corupt in our individual lives
then we would be matching the streets demanding an end to corruption.
Unfortunatly the ruling elite knows this, thats why the PDP chair once
said on NTA, Tueday live programme, '' don't mind them, (unemployed
youths) I have worked with them, they are even worse, its just noise,
they only want money''. We have the sort of leaders, country and economy
we deserve. Period!!!"
Hmmmmmmm.......The change we crave for lies in our own hands.
